Reading Your Frame Size
One of the easiest ways to choose a new frame size is to check the measurements on a pair of glasses that already fits you well.
Look inside the temple arm of your glasses. You may see a series of numbers similar to:
These numbers represent the main measurements of your eyeglass frame, and all measurements are usually given in millimeters.
What Do the Numbers Mean?
From left to right:
- 52 mm = Lens Width
- 18 mm = Bridge Width
- 145 mm = Temple Length
If your current glasses fit comfortably, look for a new frame with similar measurements as a starting point.
Lens Width
Lens width is the horizontal width of one lens at its widest point.
This is usually the first number printed inside the temple arm.
Bridge Width
Bridge width is the distance between the two lenses and determines how the frame sits across your nose.
This is usually the second number.
Temple Length
Temple length is the length of the frame arm from the hinge area to the end of the temple.
This is usually the third number.
Lens Height
Some frames may also list the lens height separately.
Lens height is the vertical measurement of the lens and can be especially useful when comparing larger frames or frames intended for progressive lenses.
What About Other Letters or Numbers?
You may also see additional letters or numbers printed inside the frame. These may indicate the model number, frame color, size code, or other product information.
They are not necessarily part of the main frame measurements.
